If SNL Ran the World (And Honestly, Maybe it Should)

Updated: Jul 24

Lately, life has felt like one long series of emotionally heavy blog posts. I’ve been sharing deeply personal, triggering stories—because they need to be told, and because staying silent about injustice only lets it grow stronger. But if I’m being honest? It’s draining. For me, and probably for you too.

So today, I needed a break. And maybe you do too.

I sat down and wrote a ridiculous poem—about what would happen if the cast of Saturday Night Live ran the world. Because sometimes my brain does weird things. Sometimes I make stuff just to make myself laugh, and whether it’s “good” or not doesn’t really matter. It’s how I survive. It’s how I cope with this exhausting, complicated, and (let’s be real) pretty broken world.

The funny thing is... as absurd as the idea sounds, the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.

What if Colin Jost handled our finances with dry wit and perfect hair? What if Kenan Thompson diffused global tensions with a smile and a ham sandwich? What if Kate McKinnon interpreted the Constitution through interpretive dance and a Russian accent?

Wouldn’t we all be laughing more? Wouldn’t that, in itself, be healing?

I’m not saying sketch comedy can fix systemic injustice (although let’s not underestimate the power of satire). But I am saying that humor has kept me afloat in ways nothing else could. It’s not a distraction—it’s a survival tool.

So today, I offer you something silly. A playful break. A little “what if” in a world that desperately needs more laughter. Because maybe, just maybe, if we gave comedians the mic a little more often, we’d remember how to listen, laugh, and love each other better.
